History from the 17th century!
The Dresden Pflaumentoffel has been part of the lively tradition of the Dresden Striezelmarkt for many decades and is its unmistakable mascot.
According to a decree from 1653, Saxon chimney sweeps were allowed to use little orphan boys aged 7-8 to crawl through fire pits, which meant they did the hardest part of the work.
For protection they wore shoulder capes and later a top hat and were also called Striezelkinder.
